Going Out for Steak??
Steakhouse Reviews | Johnny Prime
Over the years I've read many restaurant reviews. One of my favorite places for restaurant news and food in general is Eater.com. But if I'm looking for reviews of steakhouses specifically, I will often look over the Johnny Prime site. They tend to give honest reviews of steak places all around NYC and around the country. Lots of photos, menu descriptions, even the final check photo. These are not ads for these places, but good quality reviews. In addition to the steakhouse, there are lots of other food related links that keep you going down the rabbit hole of the site. There are tons of links to videos, recipes, general meat knowledge. I've used this site in the past for lessons for my students and for increasing my own culinary knowledge.
One of the unique features of the reviews is they will include steakhouses that have closed. They are highlighted in red, so you'll know. You may ask why? Why include places that are closed? Well, he explains the food really well and includes a rating. These could be helpful to see what mistakes were made resulting in the closure. As we all know, some places just close due to things not related to the food quality. Leases and expenses, health issues, other opportunities for owners, all have played a roll in closings. Its a tough biz sometimes. These past menus could give a future chef some great ideas even if not recreating the whole menu.
There are so many food sites and posts out there that its hard to follow what is worthy. Thanks to this site for some great content and reviews. Cheers!
